Mafix

Date: 2026

Asset Class: Direct Investment

Description: Mafix is an agricultural technology company with an innovative silicon-based soil amendment that increases crop yields, improves soil health, and permanently removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Using a proprietary enhanced rock weathering mineral conversion process, Mafix transforms abundant minerals into a fast-acting fertilizer that integrates seamlessly into existing farming practices while enhancing agricultural productivity and accelerating carbon mineralization. With Mafix, the carbon sequestration happens in a single growing season rather than over 10 years as with other approaches. By leveraging existing infrastructure and distribution channels, Mafix has created an elegant business model that minimizes capital requirements. Jade Marcus, the female cofounder and CEO is a former McKinsey consultant and Chemical Engineering PhD candidate from Stanford out of fellow cofounder Professor Matthew Kanan's lab.

Why We Invest: Agriculture must play a central role in addressing climate change, but lasting solutions must also create value for farmers. We invest in Mafix because it aligns economic and environmental incentives by improving crop productivity while permanently removing carbon from the atmosphere. Unlike many carbon removal approaches that rely primarily on carbon credit revenues, Mafix delivers immediate value through stronger yields and healthier soils, making adoption attractive to farmers. The rock weathering process also brings trace minerals that have been depleted through years of industrial farming back into the soil. We believe this combination of climate impact, improved food security/nutrition, and economic value gives Mafix the potential to scale rapidly while helping build a more sustainable and resilient food system. We are pleased to invest alongside Azolla Ventures and SV2.
