Redwood Materials

Date: 2026

Asset Class: Direct Investment

Description: Redwood Materials is building the circular supply chain for lithium-ion batteries and energy storage in North America. The company recovers critical minerals—including lithium, nickel, cobalt, and copper—from end-of-life batteries and manufacturing scrap, then refines those materials into battery-grade components for new electric vehicles and energy storage systems. By closing the loop on battery materials, Redwood reduces waste, lowers the environmental footprint of battery production, strengthens domestic manufacturing, and helps secure the critical mineral supply chain needed to accelerate the clean energy transition.

Why We Invest: The transition to electric transportation and renewable energy requires enormous quantities of critical minerals. Simply replacing fossil fuels with batteries is not enough if those materials continue to be mined, processed, and shipped through carbon-intensive and geopolitically fragile supply chains. Redwood Materials addresses this challenge by transforming battery waste into a valuable domestic resource, creating a circular economy in which critical materials are recovered and reused again and again.

We believe Redwood represents exactly the type of systems-level innovation needed to achieve a sustainable future. The company reduces demand for new mining, decreases lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions, strengthens North America’s energy security, and builds resilient domestic manufacturing capacity. As electrification accelerates, companies that can close the materials loop will become essential infrastructure for the clean energy economy. Redwood is not simply improving battery recycling—it is helping redefine how the next generation of energy systems will be built.
